This paper attempts to define the contribution of the Mendoza hydrocarbon sector in the productive regional economy, employment and public revenue and to investigate the dynamics of its commercialization. These aspects are related to the characterization of the oil complex in its upstream and downstream phases, with emphasis on its composition, economic actors, and the dynamics of its production chain during the years 2016-2019. The research method is eminently quantitative, based on statistical
data from various government sources. The participation of public and private actors in the complex denotes a high involvement of YPF in every phase of the process. The upstream is characterized by a modality of strategic partnerships that prevails among
actors of different origin (national/transnational) and size (single company/shareholder conglomerate) and an important direct participation in the downstream. This results in the dominating presence of YPF throughout the socio-productive complex, with a strong impact on commercialization dynamics.
