As Magister in Sacra Pagina, Thomas Aquinas, had a triple office, according to the well-known formula of Peter Cantor: legere, disputare et praedicare. The disputing Thomas has received sufficient attention during all these years. Recently, there is an increased interest in Thomas's reading of the Word ("Biblical Thomism"). Aquinas's collationes of the Hail Mary, the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Decalogue are well known. However, the preaching Thomas in his "academic sermons" (Fr. L.-J. Bataillon OP is the most notable exception) has gone almost unnoticed. In this article we propose to delve into this authentic homiletic legacy of the Angelic Doctor. We will analyze the style and structure of the sermons in general, and then focus on their doctrinal content.
