Abstract

In this text, we ask if analogy can enable a dialogue between religion and the social sciences. To do so, we focus in the conflict between the biblical understanding of man as a created being and the notion of human nature as a social construct. Although there seems to be a fundamental dispute in social constructivism between nature and freedom (Ian Hacking), we consider analogical reasoning (Mauricio Beuchot) enables anthropological views, like Philip Hefner’s, that include central aspects of the doctrine of creation and understand nature and freedom as complementary human features, thus allowing the desired dialogue.

Profesor de Cátedra de la Facultad de Filosofía en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia) y Asistente de la Decanatura de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Relaciones Internacionales de la misma Universidad. Filósofo de la Universidad de La Sabana, actualmente terminando sus estudios de Maestría en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Investigador del Grupo Interuniversitario CETRE (Centro de Estudios Teológicos y de las Religiones). Sus áreas de investigación son: filosofía de la religión, ciencia y religión, filosofía de la naturaleza, antropología teológica.
