Can a theory of distributive justice disregard the deserve?

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to make a case for using the deserve as a distributive justice criterion without excluding other rules such as basic needs. The study discusses how to deserve has evolved over time resulting into a modern concept, its relationship to chance, and presents a variant of equality of opportunities that legitimates it. In addition, it shows that there is no intrinsic meaning of merit so it needs a political definition.

Licenciado en Economía por Facultad de Ciencias Económicas
de la UBA (Buenos Aires) y Doctor en Filosofía por la Universidad de Navarra (España). Es Profesor Adjunto de Economía Política en la Escuela de Economía y Negocios de la Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM). Actualmente su campo de investigación es la teoría de la justicia. Ha publicado una monografía sobre Paul Ricoeur (De la filosofía del yo a la hermenéutica del sí mismo) y varios artículos en revistas locales y del extranjero.
