Domingo de Soto: Rereading and Contextualizing the Treatise on Law of Thomas Aquinas

Abstract

Domingo de Soto reread the Summa Theologiae texts in the cathedra of vespers of Theology. A result of these classes was a manuscript that did not go to press at the time and is known today as Latin Ottobonian 782. In this brief work, I propose to show how the Segoviean proceeded when exposing the texts of Aquinas commenting on them without going too far but without losing the essential of them, and contextualizing them in light of debates that arose after Thomas and in relation to his teaching. In this way, Soto manages to bring the medieval texts to his time updating the doctrine.

Marta Hanna de Rosa, Universidad Católica Argentina

La autora es Abogada por la Universidad de Mendoza y Licenciada en Derecho Canónico por la Universidad Católica Argentina. Ha sido profesora titular de Filosofía del Derecho en la Universidad Católica de Cuyo (San Luis) y profesora a cargo de la misma materia en la U. Católica de Uruguay, profesora de Lógica en las mismas universidades y de Derecho Canónico matrimonial en la UCC-San Luis. Es becaria del Programa de Filosofía Práctica de la Facultad de Derecho de la UCA. Actualmente se encuentra abocada a la redacción de su tesis doctoral sobre el pensamiento iusfilosófico de Domingo de Soto.
