In this paper, we propose an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis and translation of Calcidius’ De silua, through the combination of discursive analysis from the Systemic Functional Linguistics and the conceptual analysis of the philosophical and doctrinal elements of the work. Our aim is to establish the discursive configuration of De silua as an original reading of Plato’s work and of the philosophical tradition in which the author inscribes himself. We begin with a general introduction of our approach and, in a second part, we analyze specifically the first paragraph as an example of the results that we have reached with our methodology, through which we will examine, in future works, the rest of the treatise.
