Abstract

The voices of sirens are those of Alejandra Pizarnik and Reina Roffé, voraciously confronting the silence inherited over generations. A silence that emerges from the suburban world of Buenos Aires, where truth, far removed from the prevailing discourse, existed only as a phantasmagoria. Like two ghosts, they construct a narrative whose double or doppelgänger takes shape and becomes a voice. Assuming the role of writer-flâneuses, they wander through urban space, breaking the silence of the castle or the crusty house, recovering the voices of the disappeared. Revealing the voices of those who were silenced allows them to reconstruct their own identity.

Pizarnik and Roffé, as “women of the sewer,” construct a monster-woman who, from her marginality, recovers the invisible and unspeakable aspects of Argentine folklore and society. Both develop a narrative that features the monstrous doppelgänger present in the authorial voice, whose truth and animality can only exist in a fictional and phantasmagorical universe.
