Abstract

This article aims to address how movie stars can embody a new form of myth. To this end, it will consider various definitions and characteristics compiled by Pierre Brunel for both literary and historical myth, in order to identify similarities with Richard Dyer's theoretical contributions on the movie star. Throughout this exploration, the case of Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) will be considered to determine which elements of her life and career made her a star and icon of a particular moment in human existence and how these have acquired mythical nuances. Finally, it will explore how this myth is being recorded in literature and how this implies the superposition of the mythical figure over the real person.
