This article proposes a comparative analysis of the English novel of Gothic horror Carmilla, written by Sheridan Le Fanu in 1872, and its Spanish film adaptation The Blood Spattered Bride (1972), directed by Vicente Aranda. From a search for literary and historical background, try to rebuild how Fanu modeled the image of the vampire for the novel. These background are "Christabel" by Samuel T. Coleridge and popular legends about Countess Elizabeth Báthory. In addition, it is intended to study which components formed the ideal woman in the respective production times of the works: the Victorian era in England and the Spain of the 70s once these components have been determined, it is observed how they are reflected in the protagonists: Laura in Carmilla and Susan in Bride. Then, analyze how these female characters are transformed by the disruptive influence of vampirism and the lesbianism that Carmilla presents. With respect to the antagonist of these two stories, their different characterizations will be observed: as a monster in the first and as avenger in its adaptation.
