Integration of Health Geography into Basic Education

This study presents an exploratory analysis of academic production on the integration of Health Geography in Geography teaching, investigating the conceptual and methodological evolution of the field, pedagogical experiences, and the challenges for its implementation in the Brazilian school context. With an investigative and non-conclusive character, the results reveal a paradigmatic transformation, from traditional medical geography to a more integrated approach to the social determinants of health. Despite theoretical advances, the study demonstrates a significant gap between theory and practice. Innovative experiences, however, indicate promising paths through active methodologies and educational technologies. The study suggests the need to reformulate teacher training curricula, develop specific teaching materials, and establish clear curricular guidelines for basic education. The incorporation of Health Geography in basic education is imperative for the formation of critical citizens who are aware of the relationships between space, society, and health.
