How traveling around the world influenced a timeless writer
Keywords:
Agatha Christie, Travel, Literary career, Inspiration, CreativityAbstract
This paper aims to show how the habit of traveling to the most diverse corners of the planet influenced one of the greatest writers of Universal Literature: Agatha Christie, who has sold more than two billion copies, in more than a hundred languages what makes the “Lady of the Crime” the most read novelist in the world. Through her travels, whether as a child, with her family, or accompanying her second husband, an archaeologist, Christie was inspired by the knowledge acquired during those moments of knowledge acquisition and exchange of experiences to shape what she decanted from them in form of unforgettable characters, scenarios and plots, cemented in her more than eighty novels, published during her long literary career, which spanned nearly sixty years. To anchor our considerations around this writer, in this sense, we rely on her autobiography (Christie 2017), in Massi (2011) and in Pires (2005), among others. We concluded that the many trips that fueled Agatha Christie’s adventurous spirit were essential for the author's narrative experience as a traveler-writer and traveler-writer.
