Abstract

Leonor de la Cueva y Silva (1611-1705) is an essential writer of the Spanish Golden Age who lives up to the notion of the "restless woman": her work, like that of other female writers of the time, reveals an ideological fracture regarding the woman question and its adherence to the traditional model of womanhood. Her female characters—real or invented—progressively dissolve, transforming from passive, vulnerable women in the face of men's amorous whims into subjects with their own voices and an identity rooted in indelible marks that sustain their desire to no longer belong, but rather to be. Within this framework, some reflections are offered that reveal a conscious author, creator of free, disruptive, and independent female characters who, discursively constructed as subjects of enunciation, distance themselves from the traditional feminine image and create their own voice, entering their own canon, far removed from that of established male authors.
