Abstract

In the novel Kim Ji Young, Born 1982, Cho Nam-joo, through different situations and narratives, illustrates how gender-based violence can be manifested in various ways in the everyday lives of Korean women. This paper will explore the different types of gender-based violence that Kim Ji-young faces, ranging from the psychological and symbolic violence she experiences within her family and workplace, to the structural discrimination and inequality she confronts in society. It will examine how this kind of abuse affects her mental and emotional health, as well as her ability to face challenges and pursue her dreams. By understanding the impact of violence on Kim Ji-young’s life, the aim is to raise awareness among readers about the importance of addressing this issue and working towards a more equal society that respects human rights, regardless of gender.
