Abstract

The archetypal ideas regarding the role of women have undergone transformations throughout history. The conception of their roles, tasks, rights, and work changes along with the social perspectives of each historical period. This research addresses the archetypal ideas that prevailed during the Victorian era in 19th-century England regarding women. Subsequently, it is complemented by an analysis of Coventry Patmore's work (Great Britain, 1823-1896) titled The Angel in the House, where the English author expresses various archetypal ideas related to his wife through the use of poetic discourse. Over time, with the approval of contemporaneous authors such as John Ruskin and Samuel Smiles, among other members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, the work of the English poet became a literary expression of Victorian society. It is relevant today to delve into the debate about gender perspectives and its transcendence in real life, literature, and history.
