Macedonio Fernández, Rivera Garza, creative acts, creative writing

Abstract

Using the pastiche, I propose an exercise that connects the workshop-style writings of Cristina Rivera Garza and Macedonio Fernández. Both authors allow the reader to engage with their materials, procedures, readings, and thought processes rather than simply presenting finished and definitive works. Far from concealing the inner workings of the creative act, they both expose it, and they do so because, among other things, they know that only the reader can co-create, unfolding meanings that are then returned to the latent significance of the living.
