Abstract

Written in the style of a chronicle, this essay traces several years of walks with Cristina Rivera Garza through streets, institutions, book fairs, conferences, and award ceremonies. Through these journeys, the text delves into some of her works and reflects on how, as a thinker, writer, teacher, and advocate for women’s rights, she has transformed the literary scene, academia, and public discourse over more than thirty years of tireless work. The essay is also a tribute to the rigor and perseverance required to build a body of work from the United States —and particularly from Texas—where writing in Spanish entails facing constant cultural, linguistic, and political challenges.
