Abstract

This essay analyzes the ways "autobiographical ear" configures a narrative device in Autobiografía del algodón by Mexican writer Cristina Rivera Garza. The analysis also examines the ways in which readers are summoned to undertake their own works of memory, prompted by the very organization of the writing. One mode of listening deployed in this book connects with the subsequent work in Rivera Garza’s oeuvre: El invencible verano de Liliana. The relationships between these two texts will be analyzed, alongside the author’s propositions regarding Gender violence.
