Abstract

This essay analyzes Cristina Rivera Garza’s Autobiography of Cotton: A Novel (2020) through three central axes: mobility, infrastructure, and materiality. It argues that the work combines archival research, family memory, and social history to reconstruct the experience of cotton cultivation along Mexico’s northern border. It also presents migration as a structural condition linked to the extractive cycles of capital.
