Abstract

The aim of this theoretical reflection is to illustrate the fundamental concepts of Cultural History in relation to the contemporary challenges that cultural spaces have encountered when faced with new forms of appropriation of cultural production. Cultural History presents itself as a proposal that is based on the plurality of meanings that can be attributed to the material dimension of an object. In this current essay we propose to reflect on the representations of objects in museums or goods thats are recognized as carrying value and meaning for cultural heritage through the lens of cultural history, which considers culture as a space into which the different collective representations that shape distinct social groups flow. The concepts of representations and appropriation, in the context of historical studies, leads us to Roger Chartier, whose investigation fits partially in continuation with the school of the Annales. We propose to present elements which, as a theoretical framework, permit to reconstruct the situation to which both concepts refer to and to better see how they reflect in decolonized cultural spaces.
