Abstract

Since the adaptation of the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien and J.K. Rowling in the early 2000s, transmedia narratives have experienced significant growth, due in part to the rise of the fantasy genre and the increasing popularity of literary and movie sagas. This paper offers an analysis of the strategies employed by transmedia storytelling, focusing specifically on the Harry Potter phenomenon, not only through its film adaptations but also via websites, video games, merchandising and theme parks. These elements have enabled the active participation of fans, fostering the creation of communities that reinterpret and co-construct the fictional universe by J.K. Rowling at the end of the 20th century -reviving Roland Barthes’ assertion regarding the death of the author.
